New eIRB Will Provide Full Life-Cycle Support from Proposal Submission through Study Closeout
BEAVERTON, OR, January 5, 2010 – Click Commerce, the pioneer in customer-configurable solutions for the business of research, announced today that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will use Click Commerce’s eResearch Portal software to fully automate Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes. The software will enable NASA to accelerate and improve the creation, submission, review, approval, monitoring and reporting of research projects at the Johnson Space Center in Houston while enabling collaboration with participating researchers at other NASA locations and throughout the world.
IRBs monitor the safe and ethical conduct of human studies research. NASA’s research focuses primarily on recreating and studying the effects of conditions common to space flight such as weightlessness and close confinement. Click Commerce’s fully configurable, browser-based eResearch Portal IRB software provides integrated workspaces with customizable forms to assist widely dispersed research teams in assembling applications as well as automated management services to speed review processing. Using a single web site, administrators will coordinate IRB proposals from investigative teams throughout the agency that also include reviews of ancillary committees no matter where they may be located. The flexibility of the eResearch Portal platform allows for adjustments should NASA make changes to its forms and workflow processes.
“The needs of NASA’s global research community demand a flexible, collaborative IRB system for users worldwide and one that can be easily adapted over time,” said Nick Stier, president of Click Commerce. “We look forward to helping accelerate the agency’s research mission while at the same time supporting their goal of ensuring uniform and high quality oversight.”
