University Leverages Scalable eResearch Platform to Integrate Existing IRB Compliance Review System
BEAVERTON, OR, April 6, 2009 – Click Commerce, an ITW company (NYSE: ITW), announced today that the University of Utah will use Click Commerce’s eResearch Portal for Clinical Trials Participant Tracking and Billing (CTPT) to facilitate most tasks of clinical research management, including financial feasibility, budgeting, and billing. A longtime Click Commerce IRB user with more than 2000 active research programs in the biomedical and health sciences, Utah will now deploy Click Commerce’s browser-based, fully configurable CTPT compliance software solution to streamline clinical trials budgeting, ensure billing accuracy, and maintain federally compliant research activities.
Electronic support of clinical research management will assist the university in managing federally compliant billing and collecting accurate payments from research sponsors and Medicare. By merging standard procedure charge codes into online budget plans, the Click solution allows payer-tagged procedures and costs to be shared by administrative and clinical users throughout the research project. The result not only ensures that sponsors and Medicare are properly billed but also tracks actual invoices generated against the plan to recover from the research sponsor all contractually due funds.
“Since the university launched the Click Commerce IRB module in 2004, we’ve seen streamlined data entry for researchers, faster IRB review cycles, and improved communication among compliance organizations,” said Karen Wilson, Executive Director, Clinical Research Compliance and Education, University of Utah. “Given both the growing number of sponsored research projects and the increasing complexity of budgeting and billing processes, we need a system that minimizes the time spent on administrative details while ensuring that we meet our rigorous financial and participant management compliance objectives. Click’s eResearch Portal promises integration of comprehensive clinical research management and IRB human subjects protection initiatives into a single, guided workflow process.”
“The University of Utah has long been out in front with automation services for its researchers,” said Nick Stier, vice president in charge of Click Commerce Research and Healthcare. “We’re pleased to see them continuing to leverage the scalability, flexibility, and configurability of our eResearch Portal as part of their effort to shorten study startup times and focus their energies on producing results.”
The University of Utah and many other leading healthcare research institutions use Click Commerce’s browser-based, secure eResearch Portal to automate a wide range of administrative and compliance processes, including those associated with Grants, IRB, IACUC, Conflict of Interest, and Clinical Trials Participant Tracking and Billing, among others.
